This is derived from Claes Oldenburg’s “Ode to Possibilities” 1961

I am for an art
I am for an art that is designed
I am for an art that is impulsive
I am for an art that is monumental and magnificent
I am for an art that is small and insignificant
I am for your art and I am for mine
I am for art that lasts through changing times
I am for art that is fleeting and fake
I am for a classic painting of a lake
I am for an art that expresses deep thought,

and I am for an art that does not
I am for an art made by the hands of a human
I am for an art found in lines in the sand
I am for an art seen in the changing of nature
I am for an art that is written on paper
I am for an art seen in the gutters of a city
I am for an art that is regarded as shitty
I am for an art that the people love
I am for snow white images of a dove
I am for an art made from garbage or a sink
I am for an art that forces you to think
I am for art that is big or small
I am for art made by anyone at all

Artist Statement

Currently I am working towards creating my very first book! While attending NSCAD I was swept into the world of textiles, and my book ideas took on a new form. I have spent the last year creating the first part to my newest series Bazzaroh Landscapes. My love for illustrative narrative and building sculpture has come together in this three dimensional textile landscape that allows for infinite play and creativity!

Recently, I finished a series that focuses on the effect that pattern and colour have on the viewer. In these works I am attempting to create an emotional response leading to some form of narrative in the viewers mind. This could be something that has happened to the viewer in the past, is currently happening, or hopes for the future. These emotions are brought on through the use of the variation of colours, lines, images, patterns and textures used in each piece. The pieces start small and very complex so that the viewer is able to take in a lot of information quickly, while still being able to return to the piece later and take in additional information that would have been missed in the first viewing. The idea of layering is also key in the understanding of these pieces; looking past the first layer into the background will give as much information as the focal points. The series is also alluding to my illustrations in that the end goal is to create stories, images and scenes based on these abstract pieces.
